Switch your DNS tonight: one router setting moves every lookup off your internet provider's servers

The rare privacy fix you can finish before bed, on the one box every device in the house already trusts.

How-To Geek's Goran Damnjanovic writes that he replaced his internet provider's DNS with Cloudflare's, using 1.1.1.1 for the standard resolver and 1.1.1.2 for the malware-blocking one, and has run it for almost a year without trouble. He sets it at the router so every device on the network inherits it, and points his phone at AdGuard DNS. His claim is deliberately narrow, and the narrowness is the honest part: the switch prevents his provider from seeing and logging his DNS queries. He also reports faster page loads and malware filtering, with DNS over HTTPS the setting that keeps the lookups themselves encrypted.

Keep and Ponder

The useful work is finished. Keep what is true, ponder what matters, and entrust the rest to God.

Keep

The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Nahum 1:7, KJV

Ponder

Leave tomorrow's trouble on tomorrow's side of the night.

Entrust

Lord, be my shelter tonight and steady my trust for the morning. Amen.

A practice shaped by Luke 2:19Guided by the biblical witness of Mary of Nazareth.
