Record a screen demo tonight with Capptivo, a free open source recorder for Mac, Windows, and Linux

Showing someone what to click is easier than describing it, and tonight the recorder that does it well costs nothing on all three desktops.

Capptivo is an MIT-licensed screen recorder and demo editor that runs on macOS 13 and later, Windows 10 build 1903 and later, and Linux distributions with PipeWire 1.0 or newer, under both X11 and Wayland. Its maker describes recording locally and then polishing in the editor with follow-cursor zoom, click-based auto-zooms, editor presets, face-cam, on-device captions, and pen, highlighter and shape annotations drawn over the screen mid-recording. Version 1.0.2 installers are posted on GitHub as .dmg, .app.tar.gz, .msi, .exe, .deb, .AppImage and .rpm files, and it sat at No. 2 on Product Hunt today with 244 points. Two rough edges are documented rather than hidden: the macOS builds are unsigned, so the first launch needs a right-click and Open, and area selection is not available on Linux yet, where you crop in the editor instead.
