Gmail filters can sort, label, and archive your mail before you ever open the inbox

One sitting spent writing filters buys back every morning you have been sorting mail by hand.

Tony Phillips starts with the part most people get wrong: a Gmail label is a tag, not a folder, so one message can carry Inbox, Money, and PayPal at the same time, and dragging it onto a label removes only the Inbox tag while the others stay. He builds each rule out of a search he has already checked, opening Show search options, choosing Create filter, picking Apply the label, and ticking Also apply filter to matching conversations so the rule reaches the mail already piled up behind it. To empty the inbox itself he reopens the rule under Settings, Filters and blocked addresses, and adds Skip the Inbox (Archive it). His caveat belongs up front: archived mail no longer appears in the inbox and no longer raises a notification, though it stays searchable, and the mobile Gmail apps may not treat those notifications the same way the desktop browser does.

A writing app that leaves your work as ordinary Markdown files on your own disk with no account and no telemetry, installed from a .dmg on its releases page, and it spends its effort on how the page feels, with appearance profiles covering typography, color, opacity, glass effects, backgrounds, and window borders, optional Vim keys, and spelling and style help that runs on the machine instead of in a cloud service, though the maker is equally plain about the limits: it runs on Apple silicon Macs only, ships no bundled themes so each profile starts from nothing, corrects basic US English and no other language, and syncs to nothing at all, which is the point until the day you want the same draft on a second device.

Ventoy, then drag and drop Ismar Hrnjicevic installs the free Ventoy2Disk utility onto a 64GB EAGET dual connector drive he bought for $16, then simply copies in the files he wants to boot from, a Windows 11 ISO, Hiren's BootCD PE for a live desktop, Malwarebytes for cleanup, and HWiNFO for hardware readings, and uses Ventoy's Preserve space option so a second FAT32 partition made in Disk Management can still carry ordinary files, and he does not oversell the hardware: the drive runs hot enough under sustained use to slow itself down, its small connectors and exposed ports want caps and care, and he keeps an electric duster nearby for cooling.
