Build a six-column Excel subscription tracker that flags each renewal before the card is charged
The subscriptions that quietly renew themselves are the ones nobody has ever written down in one place.
How-To Geek's Tony Phillips starts the sheet with three columns, Service, Cost in Accounting format, and Last Paid as a date, then adds Category and Billing as data validation drop-downs so that cloud storage and cloud never get counted as two different things. Three formulas do the rest of the work: annual cost multiplies a monthly payment by 12 and a quarterly one by 4, EDATE projects the next renewal date from the billing frequency, and an IF statement compares that date to today and returns Check now inside three days, Upcoming inside seven, and OK otherwise, with a slicer to filter the whole table down to one category. Laid out that way the overlaps show themselves. Google One and Dropbox were duplicating storage already covered by Microsoft 365, worth $140 a year; YouTube Premium went for $200 and Adobe Acrobat Pro for $240; and renegotiated insurance and service providers returned more than $450, over $1,000 in a single year.
