Recordly records your screen and edits the clip while you work, zooming wherever the cursor goes
The walkthrough somebody at work keeps asking you for stops costing an evening of editing.
Recordly is a free, open-source screen recorder released under AGPL 3.0 that does the editing while the recording happens: as the cursor moves it zooms in on the part that matters and adds smooth transitions between actions. It runs on macOS 14.0 and later, Windows 10 build 19041 and later, and modern Linux distributions, and it adds a styled frame you can change or remove, cursor styles with click effects, a webcam overlay whose shape, size and position you set, presets so a series of recordings match, timeline cropping, trimming, splitting and repositioning, and export at your choice of resolution, frame rate and encoding quality or as a GIF. Automatic captions cover eight languages, English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese and Japanese, but only after you download a local language model first. The rough edges are worth knowing before tonight: Linux cannot hide the cursor during capture, system audio support varies by platform and is best on Windows, and a clip you open from the Windows Snipping Tool will not get the automatic editing at all.
