VoiceStudio runs free, fully local dictation and transcription on your own computer, with no subscription behind it
The local alternative to paid voice services arrives with plain double-click installers for Windows, Mac and Linux.
VoiceStudio is an AGPL-3.0 desktop application that runs voice work on your own hardware instead of a paid cloud service, covering dictation through a floating widget, transcription, video dubbing and audiobook creation across 646 languages. Version 0.5.6, published September 23, ships ordinary installers: a .exe for Windows x64, .dmg files for Apple silicon and Intel Macs, and .AppImage and .deb builds for Linux, so nothing has to be compiled. GitHub Trending listed it first on Tuesday, with 4,712 new stars in a day against a 47.8k total. The project is candid about the limits: GPU and memory needs vary by speech engine, the models carry their own licenses to review before commercial use, and cloning a voice requires the permission of the person who owns it.
