Wall Street Slides as AI Chip Selloff and Iran Tensions Deepen Weekly Losses

A brutal week for growth stocks ended in a broad Friday selloff, as cooling enthusiasm for AI chip stocks met fresh anxiety over Iran.

The Dow fell 0.8% to 52,146.42, the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.4% to 25,520.24, and the S&P 500 lost 1% to 7,457.69 on Friday, with ten of eleven S&P sectors closing lower and only Energy managing a gain. The CBOE Volatility Index jumped 12.2% to 18.77, and decliners outpaced advancers roughly two to one on both the NYSE and Nasdaq. For the week, the Nasdaq, S&P 500 and Dow fell 2.9%, 1.6% and 0.9% respectively, as a semiconductor-led growth stock pullback combined with renewed Iran-related geopolitical unease to sour investor sentiment.
