Amazon tops $3 trillion in market value for the first time

The fifth company ever to reach the mark got there on cloud demand rather than retail.

Amazon's market capitalization passed $3 trillion for the first time on Monday, with the shares rising about 5 percent to a record high and up more than 23 percent for the year. The move followed second quarter results in which Amazon Web Services revenue grew 37 percent to $42.2 billion and AWS segment operating income reached $16.6 billion. Total net sales for the quarter ended June 30 were $200.6 billion, a 20 percent increase. Amazon becomes the fifth company to reach $3 trillion, joining Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet and Nvidia.

Scripture for Reflection

“Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be conceited and not to put their hope in the uncertainty of wealth, but in God, who richly provides all things for us to enjoy.”

We can hold our own hopes loosely, resting them in God rather than in numbers that rise and fall.

KKR to buy medical device maker Integer for about $5.7 billion

All-cash agreement Integer stockholders will receive $127 per share, a 51.8 percent premium to the April 29 close, in a deal the companies expect to close by the end of 2026.

Scripture for Reflection

“Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

We can ask where we are being asked to be faithful with the small things entrusted to us.

Letters to the King
You wrote that your strength failed because of your iniquity. What does a person do with the shame that lingers long after they have been forgiven?
From the Baker's own shelf

Yes, I wrote it, and I meant every syllable: my strength failed because of my iniquity. There were months when my bones felt older than my years and the harp sat in the corner untouched. So hear me on this, friend, for I have walked the whole length of that road. Guilt and shame are not brothers, whatever they whisper to you in the dark. Guilt is honest work; it says you did a wrong thing, it walks you to the altar, and then it has the decency to let go. Shame says you are the wrong thing, and it never lets go, because the Lord never sent it in the first place. When He forgave me, He did not hand my sin back as a keepsake to carry. So do the plain things. Say the true word out loud to one friend who will not flinch. Read the psalms I wrote after the ruin, not only the bright ones I wrote before it; the same hand held the pen. Then go and do some small, unglamorous kindness before the day is out, for shame withers fastest in the sunlight of useful work. You are not the sum of your worst season. Ask me how I know.
