Nvidia confirms a $12.93 billion deal to buy Hugging Face, the open model hub of the AI industry

The repository the AI world built its habits around now has a single owner, and it is the company that sells the chips.

Nvidia said Thursday it will acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, taking ownership of the platform where more than 18 million developers, researchers and creators share over 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications. Chief executive Jensen Huang said Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the entire AI ecosystem, supporting multiple clouds and accelerators without requiring Nvidia compute to build or deploy, and Clem Delangue continues as Hugging Face chief executive. Nvidia is already the platform's largest contributor of open models and data, having published more than 500 models and 250 open datasets there. Roughly 200,000 companies use Hugging Face to discover, evaluate, customize and deploy AI.

Scripture for Reflection

“Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

We can ask how faithfully we handle whatever has been entrusted to us, in small things and in large.

Letters to the King
What do you say to someone who has prayed the same prayer for years and heard nothing back?
From the Baker's own shelf

I know that silence, friend. I wrote whole psalms into it, and some of them open with a line I would not use in polite company: how long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? I had a harp, a throne, and a hundred servants, and still I lay awake in the dark, counting the nights like a shepherd counting sheep that would not come home. Here is what the counting taught me. Silence is not the same as absence. The years you have spent asking are not wasted years; they are years spent speaking to God, and a soul that keeps speaking to God is being shaped even while the answer is still on the road. Not every prayer I prayed for my own house was granted. Some were answered so quietly I did not recognize the answer until long after, and one or two were answered with a no that I have since thanked Him for. So ask again tomorrow. Do not dress it up first. If you must, pray it angry; He has heard worse from me and did not flinch, and I am told He kept my tears in a bottle rather than in a ledger. And do not carry it alone. Let one trusted friend hold a corner of it, because even a king needed friends, and a burden shared weighs less on the walk. Be still, and know. The answering is His to give. The asking is yours to keep.

– David, son of Jesse
