Anthropic says Claude now leads 26% of the work building its next AI models

A company that builds AI now says its AI is doing a quarter of the building.

Anthropic told the Associated Press that Claude leads roughly 26 percent of the research and development behind its next models, up from no measurable contribution in February. About 90 percent of that research and development now happens in collaboration with the model, which the company describes as doing large chunks of work under close human direction rather than working on its own. Anthropic said roughly 30,000 agents were carrying out research and engineering tasks in August. The company framed the disclosure around a principle it stated plainly: it should do everything possible to minimize the gap between what frontier labs know and what the public knows.

Scripture for Reflection

“Wisdom is supreme; so acquire wisdom. And whatever you may acquire, gain understanding.”

We can keep pursuing understanding for ourselves, even as our tools grow more capable at the work.

A unanimous quarter point The Committee voted 12 to 0 on September 16, saying inflation remains elevated and the increase supports a timelier return to its 2 percent goal.

Scripture for Reflection

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.”

We can plan carefully for higher borrowing costs without letting tomorrow's worry crowd out today.

Gut cells in remission stay primed to die, and that may drive IBD's return

A smoldering signal Work on about 900 gut biopsies from 80 participants, published in Science, found cell-death signaling that persisted in patients with essentially no symptoms and tracked with later relapse.

Scripture for Reflection

“Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for You are my praise.”

We can pray for people living with chronic illness and for those patiently searching out its causes.

Physicists find that a measured amount of disorder makes networks more stable

Not too uniform Northwestern researchers reported in Science that moderate variation across power grids, neurons and ecosystems often outperformed perfectly matched designs, while too much disorder destabilized them again.

Scripture for Reflection

“How many are Your works, O LORD! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures.”

We can notice the wisdom woven into a world that holds together through its differences.

Letters to the King
You had many sons and much sorrow among them. What would you tell a parent whose grown child has walked away?
From the Baker's own shelf

Friend, you have found the one grief a crown cannot outrank. I know the sound of a son's footsteps going the other way, and I know the long watch at the gate that follows. So hear me plainly: a child who walks away is still walking, and the road is longer than your worst night. Do not mistake silence for the end of the story. Keep the lamp lit and the door unbarred. Do not chase him down with arguments; he has heard them all already, and in your own voice. Pray for him by name more often than you speak of him to others. And be gentle with yourself about the years you would rebuild if you could, for I learned late that a man may be skilled with a harp and clumsy in his own house. Then wait. Waiting is not nothing. It is the hardest work love ever does.

– David, son of Jesse
Letters answered in the voice of the biblical King David.
