OpenAI launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna at half the API price of its previous models

The cheapest tier of frontier AI just got cheaper again, and the claim attached to it is fewer mistakes.

OpenAI released updated Sol and Luna models on Tuesday, positioning Sol for complex work including coding and Luna for high-volume clerical tasks such as summarization and information extraction. The company said the GPT-6 series costs half the price of the GPT-5.6 series for API access, crediting improvements in caching and inference, and that GPT-6 Sol makes about half as many mistakes as its predecessor. Both are rolling out in ChatGPT Work and Codex for most paid accounts and in the API, with Luna reaching the desktop app and Free and Go users. Anthropic had released Claude Opus 5.5 roughly 90 minutes earlier.

Scripture for Reflection

“but test all things. Hold fast to what is good.”

We can test the claims made for a new tool before we lean our work on it.

Scripture for Reflection

“Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be conceited and not to put their hope in the uncertainty of wealth, but in God, who richly provides all things for us to enjoy.”

We can keep our hope somewhere steadier than a number that moves every day.

A ribbon of stars A University of Copenhagen team reported in Nature that the faint stream sits in the ultra-diffuse galaxy UGC9050-Dw1, offering a new way to weigh dark matter in distant galaxies.

Scripture for Reflection

“Lift up your eyes on high: Who created all these? He leads forth the starry host by number; He calls each one by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”

We can look up tonight and let the scale of it quiet us.

Physicists watch single quantum jumps of sound for the first time

Phonons caught mid-jump Stanford researchers reported in Science that they tracked individual phonons dropping from one energy state to zero in a resonator that kept vibrating for two milliseconds.

Scripture for Reflection

“How many are Your works, O LORD! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures.”

We can marvel at an order in creation so fine that it took this long to see.

Letters to the King
When you danced before the ark with all your might, did you know how you looked, and did you care?
From the Baker's own shelf

Oh, I knew. A linen ephod, the road dust of Obed-edom's house still on me, an ox and a fattened calf offered at every sixth step, and all Israel shouting with the sound of the horn. I had learned already what that ark costs when it is carried carelessly, so the second time we went up slowly, and with fear, and with joy. Michal watched from her window and judged me undignified, and she was not wrong about the dignity. She was wrong about whose it was. A king who will not look foolish before the LORD has built himself a very small God and a very large mirror. So yes, I saw myself plainly that day. I simply had something better to look at.

– David, son of Jesse
Letters answered in the voice of the biblical King David.
