Amazon signs a 20-year deal for 690 megawatts from Calvert Cliffs, unlocking more than $3 billion of investment

The computing buildout has started paying to keep old reactors running, and to add capacity on top of them.

Constellation and Amazon announced a 20-year power purchase agreement covering 690 megawatts at the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center in Lusby, Maryland, including a 190-megawatt uprate of the 1,790-megawatt plant. Constellation said the agreement enables more than $3 billion of Maryland infrastructure investment, with the roughly 190 megawatts of new generating capacity arriving between 2030 and 2032. A related agreement supports relicensing the plant for another 20 years, and a separate retail supply agreement covers Amazon operations across the 13-state PJM market. Chief executive Joe Dominguez said Amazon's commitment supports the long-term operation of Calvert Cliffs for generations to come and creates a strong foundation for future investment.

Scripture for Reflection

“Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.”

We can ask what has been placed in our care, and whether we are tending it for the people who come after us.

Letters to the King
Is there a right way to be angry at God?
From the Baker's own shelf

Friend, you have put the question to a harpist who once asked the LORD how long He meant to forget him, and the scroll kept the question rather than striking it out. So yes, there is a right way, and it begins with where you carry the anger. Bring it to Him and not away from Him. Say the thing plainly: the hurt, the delay, the grave that came too soon. What makes it prayer and not poison is the direction you are facing while you speak. Anger carried off into the dark curdles; anger carried into His courts is heard. Mind the two cliffs on either side of that road. Do not pretend to be calm when you are not, for a tidy voice has never once fooled Him. And do not let your complaint harden into a verdict on His character, for you are the clay and have not yet seen the whole vessel. Remember Job. He shouted for chapters and was answered out of the whirlwind, and then honored; his friends spoke in careful paragraphs and were corrected. Heaven, it seems, would rather have an honest storm than a polite lie. So come angry if angry is what you are. Only come.
