Samsung's quarterly operating profit tops 100 trillion won for the first time on AI memory demand

The memory maker's preliminary numbers put a figure on how much the AI buildout is now worth to whoever supplies it.

Samsung Electronics said preliminary third-quarter operating profit reached 107.4 trillion won, the first time the company has cleared 100 trillion won in a single quarter, on revenue of about 195 trillion won. Operating profit rose more than eightfold from a year earlier and revenue climbed roughly 127%, lifting the operating margin to 55.1%. The report credits memory chips used in AI systems, including DRAM, NAND flash and high-bandwidth memory, where supply has stayed short as large technology companies build data centers. The profit figure ran ahead of the 106.0 trillion won analysts expected, and a full breakdown by business division is due October 29.

Scripture for Reflection

“And He said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourselves against every form of greed, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.””

A number this large is a good moment to ask where we are quietly locating our own security.

Letters to the King
Was it harder to wait for the crown or to wear it?
From the Baker's own shelf

Both, friend, but in different weathers. The waiting was long and loud with nothing: Samuel poured the oil over a shepherd boy, and then I went back to the sheep, and then I carried a harp into Saul's house and ran out of it again, and the oil was dry on my head for years before the elders came to me at Hebron. Waiting taught me the shape of my own hands. Wearing it taught me the weight of other people's mornings. If you are still waiting, hear this: the waiting is not wasted time, it is the field where the shepherd learns the sheep. And if you are already carrying something heavy, hear this too: a crown is mostly a gathering of other people's needs, and the One who set it on you is not surprised by how tired you are tonight. I would choose the waiting again. I never said I would choose it cheerfully.
